Size Doesn’t Matter: The arguments for place-based devolution

A report by ResPublica for the District Councils’ Network and Unitary Councils’ Network

“Size doesn’t matter” conclude ResPublica, who make the case for connecting and levelling up towns and cities yet to benefit from devolution, and for moving away from a ‘Whitehall knows best’ approach on everything from housing to skills.

The project, jointly supported by the DCN & the Unitary Councils’ Network, argues that devolution must move a range of services, powers & funding as close to communities as possible, so that they can shape their own destiny. Demonstrating again that bigger is not always better.
