DCN RESPONDS TO NAO REORT ON FINANCIAL SUSTAINABILITY OF COUNCILS

Responding to today’s National Audit Office report on the financial sustainability of councils, Cllr Sharon Taylor, Finance Lead for the District Councils’ Network, said:

“This comprehensive report by the NAO confirms that in the latest spending review period until 2020, it will be district councils who have faced the biggest reduction in their spending power of 13.9 per cent – far more than other types of councils. With cuts to the New Homes Bonus and negative RSG looming for three quarters of our members, districts are now facing real funding challenges and stark funding decisions.”

“It is now imperative that the future funding review deals with the unfairness in the system to ensure that district councils can continue to deliver better lives and stronger economies for those they serve.”
