DCN RESPONDS TO ANNOUNCEMENT ON NEGATIVE RSG

Responding to the Government’s announcement ensuring councils will not lose out through negative RSG in 2019/20, Cllr John Fuller, Chairman of the District Councils’ Network, said:

“The District Councils Network is delighted that the Government has listened to the concerns of our members and that its preferred option is to ensure that no District Council will lose out through negative Revenue Support Grant (RSG) in 2019/20

It’s important that the principles of local taxes funding services for our local residents and communities is safeguarded. We will now look at the detail of this consultation to ensure that government continues to incentivise growth to allow districts to build more homes to support our residents and communities, including through the New Homes Bonus.

Today is a significant victory for District Councils, but we must continue to push for the further financial freedom our districts require.”
