DCN responds to Government’s announcement on Spending Review

Houses of Parliament and Portcullis House from Westminster Bridge

Responding to the Government’s announcement, Cllr John Fuller OBE, Chairman of the DCN said:

‘We welcome the Chancellor’s commitment to the delivery of this fast-tracked Spending Review and the certainty of funding for the next year, which will enable us to continue delivering and driving growth in our local areas.

The Spending Review provides a critical opportunity to establish a sustainable financial future for the local services that districts deliver. We have strongly advocated for a delay of the original 3 year review, and are pleased that the Government has heard this message.

It will be critical that the Treasury’s Spending Review incentivises councils to continue building strong local economies and innovate to reduce costs, and protects local taxpayers from cost-shunts from other national Departments.

We look forward to continuing the discussions with the Government to shape spending reform on the behalf of our communities across the country.’
