Responding to a letter published on the Government’s waste strategy from Housing, Communities and Local Government Committee Chair Clive Betts MP, to Local Government Minister Rishi Sunak MP, Cllr Isobel Darby, DCN Lead Member for Enhancing Quality of Life, said:
“We strongly advocate the Committee’s recommendations set out in the letter which supports the pivotal role in local discretion and delivery when it comes to such an important service delivered by districts.
“We welcome the call for security on funding and echo the calls for the data to be available to allow the opportunity to review and feedback, in order to ensure the proposed funding will be sufficient to continue delivering the high standards of recycling and waste collection services to our residents.
“Whilst districts continue striving to increase recycling rates, in order to fully deliver this ambitious strategy there must be investment in the recycling industry infrastructure which currently limits our capacity to deliver the recycling targets set out in the strategy.”
