A vital national conference is bringing together district councils and partners today (June 16) to discuss solutions to dementia.

The event, which is taking place in central London, is the first conference of the Healthy Town and Villages Network (HTVN). This network was created by the work of the District Councils’ Network health work stream as a result of recommendations from a King’s Fund report which highlighted the crucial role districts play in preventative care. HTVN promotes the key role of district councils in keeping local areas healthy.

Today’s landmark event shares some of the innovative ways that councils are embracing the challenges and opportunities of addressing public health in a particularly challenging time. The conference also showcases what districts such as Sevenoaks, Teinbridge, and Wealden are doing to tackle dementia in their communities. The event highlights how even the smallest of changes can make a major difference in improving the lives of communities affected by dementia.

Speakers include Professor John Ashton, former President of the Faculty of Public Health and Anne Rollings from the Alzheimer’s Society.
