DCN responds to winning bids to Housing Infrastructure Fund

DCN RESPONDS TO WINNING BIDS TO HOUSING INFRASTRUCTURE FUND

Responding to today’s announcement that 133 council-led projects will receive £866 million from the Government’s Housing Infrastructure Fund, Cllr John Fuller, Chairman of the District Councils’ Network, said:

“These major funding allocations of £866 million are a welcome boost to district councils, more than half of which make up the successful bids.

“This money will enable district councils – as the housing and planning authorities – to pave the way for building essential housing-related infrastructure, such as roads, schools, healthcare centres and utilities, more quickly, which will help get homes built faster in areas of high demand.

“District councils, who are responsible for approving 90 per cent of planning applications, and enabled almost half of all housing completions in the last year, welcome this support for local councils which will help unlock our potential to accommodate growing communities, ease pressures on public services and tackle the housing crisis.”
