Steve Atkinson

Chief Executive, Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council

Steve began work in local government in his home town of Preston in January 1978 as a Trainee Management Services (Work Study) Assistant. He has Masters degrees in both Politics and Economics and Business Administration. He has been Chief Executive with Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council since February 2005.His background is in personnel management.

He has worked in district, borough and county councils in England (Preston, West Lancashire, Cumbria County and Daventry District), the latter being his first Chief Executive role, where he stayed for five years.

This followed five years as the first Director of Social Services in the new Welsh unitary authority of Pembrokeshire.He leads and represents Leicestershire Districts on the Leicestershire Children and Young Persons' Executive and Board and on the East Midlands Improvement Partnership.

Since 2005 he has represented SOLACE on the Home Office CDRP Reform Steering Group and is the main SOLACE link with the Home Office.
