David Cook

Chief Executive, Kettering Borough Council

After leaving school, David commenced his local government career as a filing clerk in his home town in Yorkshire.

By dint of hard-work and through part-time study, he developed a financial career path, before becoming CEO of Kettering Borough in 2000.

Since that time, the council has gone through a significant and successful improvement programme, leading to a number of national awards for leadership and customer service, including the coveted Local Government Chronicle “Management Team of the Year” award.

David tends to be involved with national policy development bodies and groups, and as part of this he has:

  • He has submitted evidence to a House of Commons select committeIs a member of the Audit Commission’s CPA Reference GrouServes on SOLACE’s Electoral Matters Panel
  • Has articles regularly published in the local government presIs an advisor to the Local Government Association (LGA) on a number of issues
  • David was honoured by Her Majesty the Queen in the New Year's Honours List, when he was awarded an MBE for his contribution to public service.In addition to formal professional qualifications.
  • David has benefited from a scholarship to undertake a Leadership Study at M.I.T, Harvard, Berkeley and Stanford Universities in the United States. This helped fuel an already intense interest in Leadership Studies. He also recently completed a two-week executive public sector leadership programme at the Darden Business School at Virginia State University.

A family man, David has four young daughters and, in what spare time he has, he enjoys spending time with his family and friends and trying to keep fit!
